Default Re: What thickness Ipe for decking?

I see that they are coming out with different models based upon the moisture content. That is probably good.

When we used them, some of the material still moved. Not all of them, but enough that I thought it was unsightly. The amount that the screw bites into the ipe is not enough, in my opinion. It may just be me, but I like uniform gaps, and if the clip allows any movement at all, it has the potential to create ugly gaps, especially if one board goes one way and the adjacent board goes the other way. It happens.

If you decide to use them, let us know how it turns out.

We were using 5/4 ipe at the time, now we use 4/4.

The decks we used ipe clips on gave us more trouble then all the other decks we've built combined. Mostly due to movement of the ipe. Gapping problems mostly.

Until recently, Tiger Claw did not have a clip that they recommended for 4/4 ipe. They recently sent me some samples that I have yet to test out.
I've bought them for the last 2 Ipe decks I did....TC 120 I think, but not sure. Got one deck built for a real stickler for detail and he's not contacted me at all about the clips. I've been back over there twice since then and have not noticed any problems at all.

Weird hearing about Ipe moving....never seen that either and we've been building Ipe decks for years.
